Statement of Intent
Middlesbrough Railway Station, opened in 1877, built as an extension to the world’s first passenger railway service - Stockton to Darlington. (Middlesbrough’s Stations Through Time, 2022).
Architect, William Peachey’s (Fawcett, 2011) Gothic architecture has seriously deteriorated, but thanks to “Levelling Up” and the efforts of the mayor, money has been allocated for its restoration and expansion (Fairhurst, 2022).
Twelve architectural/photojournalism[1] photographs are to be produced in a documentary style to provide a narrative, requested by the construction company and workers restoring the station, to reflect on the deterioration and restoration work and to promote their skills.
This project is in response to the commission for the second phase[2]. A further commission will follow in 2023 following completion of the restoration.
The set of images, portrait, or landscape, in colour, authentic with only minor editing, produced in the Autumn of 2022, are to comply with (RPS Genre Definitions 2022).
